The past winter in Georgia was unseasonably long and cold, creating serious problems in the agricultural sector, particularly sheep breeding. According to preliminary figures, 15-20% of Georgian sheep have died.
The national association of sheep breeders reports that there are approximately 550 000 sheep, 150 000 of which the association hopes to export.
Analysts in the field have already recommended the state better support the sector, and now facing a new crisis, a change in government policy may be necessary.
