Average salary statistics challenged

The average salary in Georgia is approximately 700 GEL per month, according to official government statistics. However, some economic analysts challenge this figure, and say that when calculating average salary the very small, top portion of income-earners (such as managers, directors, and other executives) should be excluded from the list. Analyst Soso Archuadze calculated that only about 200000 individuals across the country earn more that 700 GEL per month.
Furthermore, analysts also note that almost half of Georgians' income goes to taxes. Almost 40% of an average salary is spent on taxes and utilities.
