The first President of an independent Armenia, and current leader of the National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, noted that Armenia's economic power is weakening. He cited the drop in GDP in recent years, as well as the increasing number of foreign loans being taken by the government. The local currency has depreciated, inflation is rising, and poverty is increasing, among other problems, and Ter-Petrosyan blames the current leadership.
