The government of Turkmenistan supports the idea of starting a dialogue over territorial and resource rights in the Caspian Sea region. It supports the idea of involving the UN, the UN Environmental Protection Program, the Global Ecology Fund, the World Bank, and representatives from the five countries who border the Sea.
In November of last year, Kazakhstan hosted a special group which was to determine the legal status of the Caspian. This issue is crucial thanks to the oil and gas reserves in the region.
