The Turkish and Russian government agreed on certain terms pertaining to the South Stream project. Together with economic incentives, the geo-political interests of the different players are involved in the implementation of those projects. The West tries to secure its energy independence as to not be solely dependent on Russian energy. Russia meanwhile tries to block any such possibility, thus attempting to control the European energy supply entirely. In the competition between European countries with different interests, often Russia takes its own benefits and advantages.
