As soon as Vano Merabishvili was appointed as the PM, he loudly declared that the country will make agriculture a high priority in Georgia’s economic policy. He also promised that over the next four-years, 4 billion GEL would be invested in the agriculture sector. The population in Georgia remembers very well that in 2007, the Georgian president promised the creation of 100 agricultural enterprises which would employ 200 people each. However, things went wrong since then. In 2008, Russia invaded Georgia; in 2009, the country was under the strain of the world financial crisis. In 2011, officials quit discussing the issue. Analysts predict that this issue will again be revived during the pre-election period and probably will die again afterwards as was the case prior.
