Georgia has the full potential to produce more than 3 thousand tons of honey if markets emerge for such a product. It is very important to manage to get to the EU market. However, to achieve its goal, Georgia would first need to comply with food safety standards. All laboratory facilities would have to satisfy internationally adopted standards so that the laboratory would be able to issue special certificates which will be valid in the European countries. In 2011 Georgia exported honey in the amount of $60, 000. Mostly Georgian honey that goes to Turkey, Azerbaijan and Greece. This segment of the agriculture industry needs serious support from the state as well.
