Geography of Georgian Foreign Trade
Monday, July 30
There is a positive tendency in Georgia’s foreign trade geography. It keeps increasing annually. In 2011, Georgia’s partner countries reached the number of 147. Paradoxically enough, the diversification and enlargement of Georgian foreign market increased after the Russian embargo on Georgian products imposed in 2006. Since then, Georgia is trying to increase the number of its trade partners, reaching more and more new markets. Until 2006, the biggest trade partner for Georgia was Russia, and therefore Georgian business did not care much for diversifying the destination of its export products. What is interesting however is that Russia still remains a Georgian partner in foreign trade, holding seventh place on the list of partner countries.
