American companies are ready to participate in constructing a natural gas pipeline from Turkmenistan, through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India (TAPI). India has a great demand for natural gas to develop its growing economy which Turkmenistan with its abundant natural gas reserves can help provide. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake commented on this recently. Blake is confident that Turkmenistan has the capacity to complete its part of the project. Pakistan and Afghanistan can also benefit from the project. Further steps are to be taken in September.
