In the first seven months of 2012, Georgia's re-export of automobiles to neighboring Azerbaijan has reached almost $187 million. This is more than two-times the amount for the same period of last year. The most popular brands re-exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan are Mercedes and BMW. As a result, Georgia has many Azeri visitors traveling to Georgia to purchase spare parts for their cars. They claim this is still much cheaper than getting these cars in Azerbaijan. Companies involved in this business explain this tendency by the economic policy that is in place Georgia. The companies involved in the re-export business pay only legal official customs duties, whereas in Azerbaijan this is much more complicated.
