Georgia is an agricultural country. Historically, Georgia satisfied most of its own agricultural demands. However, in recent years there has been a very strong tendency for the Georgian market to import a huge amount of agricultural products. In the recent past Georgia was satisfying the demand for potatoes in particular. Now a large percentage of this product is imported. Potatoes imported in Georgia often originate from Turkey, Armenia Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Ukraine as well as Germany and the Netherlands. Potato growing is decreasing in Georgia and it is producing less and less local products. In a few days, the new agriculture minister will be appointed, and he will face a very serious challenge in this field.
