Presentation – Manual about Political Prisoners in Georgia

On December 20th Human Rights House Tbilisi presented “Manual about Political Prisoners in Georgia” in the office of the Open Society Georgia Foundation.
The main goal of researching and writing the manual was to identify what criteria are used in determining the status of political prisoners in Georgia.
“Manual about Political Prisoners in Georgia” was prepared as part of the project “Uniting Georgian Civil Society to Jointly Study the Issue of Political Prisoners” and implemented by Human Rights House Tbilisi with the financial support of Open Society –Georgia Foundation.
The group working on the researching and writing the manual consisted of representatives of human rights organizations, NGO's and media organizations.
“Manual about Political Prisoners in Georgia” includes: a review of the history of political prisoners in Georgia and the current situation, the criteria of international organizations (CoE, Amnesty International), the procedures of the European Court of Human Rights in relation to politically motivated cases, international and local reports about political prisoners in Georgia, and an analysis of Georgian legislation concerning political prisoners.
