In 2012 Russia continued modernizing its 102nd military base located in the Armenian town of Gymry. It also increased the number of naval units in the Caspian Sea. There are plans to further reinforce the Russian-Caspian navy. Of course the two occupied territories of Georgia: Abkhazia and South Ossetia seriously support the Russian military position in the South Caucasus, which are in fact unofficial Russian military bases.
