During the Soviet period Georgia’s light industry was quite well developed, employing thousands of people and creating different types of products. Official statistics show that currently Georgian light industry is very poor. Georgia exports only raw materials – the only enterprise producing leather is a Georgian-Italian joint venture which employs 200 people. The current Georgian government should try to revive the industry, promote investment in this field and create jobs.
