The former UNM government facilitated the creation of monopolies and thus seriously damaged free enterprise in Georgia. One of Georgian Dream's major promises is to fight monopolies and promote healthy competition. The Parliamentary Sectoral Committee thinks that the law on monopolies should be completely rewritten. This needs time-it is unlikely that drafting the new laws will be completed before summer. The Georgian anti-monopoly office was created in 1996. This office was abolished by then Minister of the Economy Kakha Bendukidze in 2004.
