Azerbaijan sees increase in compulsory social insurance payment by foreigners

In the first quarter of 2013 the number of foreigners registered in State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) of Azerbaijan grew by 8.1 percent, the fund reported on Wednesday.
As of April 1st, the number of foreigners registered through the individual registration system has grown to 14,864 people, the report said.
Foreigners registered under the individual registration system in Azerbaijan are citizens of 97 countries. The majority of them are citizens of Turkey (8640 people). Georgia is ranked the second on this list with 1659 citizens, and Russia is third with 756 people.
They are followed by the citizens of Iran (487) India (352) China (338) Great Britain and Northern Ireland (218) Uzbekistan (174) Pakistan (139) Germany (132) Bosnia and Herzegovina (128) Ukraine (125) Philippines (117) Italy (105), Turkmenistan (101) Kazakhstan (97) Malaysia (90) and the USA (87).
A decree of the President of Azerbaijan on the endorsement of the law 'On individual registration in the state social insurance system' was signed in December 2001. Individual registration envisages the organization and accounting of data about each insured person to provide pension and other social security rights in accordance with the laws of the country.
Compulsory state social insurance's coverage of foreigners receiving salaries from sources of income in Azerbaijan from which contributions are paid to compulsory social insurance, began in January 2006. (Trend)
