General Prosecutor claims private property back

Prosecutor General Archil Kbilashvili has informed the population numerous times that around 18, 000 claims have been filed to his office concerning private property and businesses that were taken away from their owners over the past 20 years since Georgia has regained its independence. Many such violations took place during the Rose administration. Among those who have lost their money are people who had savings in Soviet banks and who received nothing due to the change of the political system, governments, currency, etc. Then following violations, committed by the state organizations, and high-rank officials; there are many cases of abuse of property rights and businesses. The current Georgian government has started investigating some of these notorious cases. The prosecutor’s office reports that only 68 cases have been investigated so far. At this speed, such cases will need to be investigated for around a century.
