Georgian migrants’ money transfer important for the country

By the estimation of the World Bank, there are more than 1 million Georgians working abroad and they assist their families by sending money transfers. There are many families in Georgia who are unemployed and survive only through receiving money from a family member working abroad. During the governance of the Rose administration, the volume of money transfers from Georgian labor migrants increased six-fold. If we consider that the migrants sent only part of their salaries received abroad to their families (as they have to hire a dwelling and buy food for themselves), there is the supposition that Georgian migrants receive around $2.5 billion USD abroad. So it should be mentioned here that the money inflow from the migrants is more than twice as much as the amount of the FDI in the country.
