Ivanishvili: Georgia will become bridge between East and West
Netgazeti reports that according to Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, development of a transport corridor is in Georgia’s strategic interests. Ivanishvili said at a conference held in the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel on May 16th that Georgia is in the middle of the East-West transit passage and has a wish and an opportunity to be a strong bridge in the economic relations between East and West.
Ivanishvili said in order to achieve political and economic stability, the country should achieve success in three directions: "We should improve transit infrastructure, ensure the creation of an attractive business environment to help develop the private sector and have fruitful cooperation with our neighbors." the Prime Minister said, stressing that investing in infrastructure is a priority for Georgia.
He said the country will rehabilitate internationally important roads and develop railway infrastructure, including the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Karsi railway. The Prime Minister also said Georgia is interested in the development of port infrastructure so foreign trade can increase.
According to Ivanishvili, Georgia has one of the lowest tax rates in the world and has an economy that is attractive to investment.
The conference "Connection of Asia and Europe: Regional Economic Integration in the South Caucasus and Asia" was organized by the U.S. Department of State and the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute. Representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy to Georgia and the EU Delegation also participated in the conference.
