During the United National Movement (UNM) governance, the tourism industry was the leading segment of Georgian economic development, as UNM leaders conducted expensive advertising campaigns around the world. The Georgian Dream coalition is not following this strategy, although the ruling party still considers tourism as an important sector.
Statistical data has suggested that already in 2013, the number of incoming tourists is increasing compared to the same period last year. More than 1 million foreign tourists have visited the country so far. Tourists enter Georgia from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine, etc.
