Vice PM: Turkish banks should not interfere in politics
Thursday, June 13
Turkish banks should not interfere in political events, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Babacan said, the 'Anadolu' agency reported on Wednesday.
"Banks have to explain to their depositors the real meaning of the events in the country," Babacan said.
Earlier, the Turkish media reported that whilst the violence was taking place in the cities of Turkey, most depositors withdrew their money from the banks.
The Turkish Banks Association has not commented on this report.
For more than two weeks, protests have been continuing in various Turkish cities. According to the authorities, the protests have an anti-government character. (Trend)
