According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Georgia is expecting to receive about 100, 000 tons of wheat harvest this year. During the Soviet era, the country received almost their entire wheat from other Soviet republics such as Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. After regaining its independence, Georgia satisfied around 15% of its annual consumption, which is up to 800, 000 tons. Wheat production in Georgia is poor concerning the quality. The price of the wheat consumed in Georgia is determined according to world standards. It is approximately 300 USD per metric ton.
