Do you think it is possible for Abkhazia and South Ossetia to rejoin Georgia? How?

Friday, August 9
"I'm totally ignorant of political matters; I think it's possible but I have no idea how."
Teo, journalist, 26

"I think it is possible but not in the near future."
Shalva, producer, 39

"Maybe one day we will regain our territories. We should talk with the people who live there. What is most important is that we should take decisions by ourselves with these people and no one should tell us what to do."
Mariam, teacher, 34

"I am sure we will regain the breakaway territories but only through peaceful means."
Keti, photographer, 26

"I really don't think it is possible to regain either Abkhazia or South Ossetia. Even if Georgia becomes Russia's ally, Russian troops will remain in both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. In my opinion, even a strategic partnership will not guarantee any progress as Moscow will constantly use the breakaway regions to control not only Georgia but the entire South Caucasus region. As time goes by, it gets more and more difficult to find a common language with the new generation in the breakaway regions."
Ernest, expert in IR, 25

"I don’t think it is possible with the current Russian leadership."
Eka, PR manager, 36

"I think it is possible, but I’m afraid it will take decades and will cost us a lot."
Natalia, service agent, 32

“I’m becoming sceptical about regaining our territories. Hopefully we will regain our regions, but before that we have to become much more economically vital."
Irakli, credit officer, 28

"We have to return those territories, we cannot lose our homes. To be honest I have no idea how we should do it. We have another problem which is a cultural gap between people. The younger generations of Georgians, Abkhazians and Ossetians do not know how to communicate with each other."
Manana, accountant, 47
