During the governance of the United National Movement (UNM), tourism was declared as the highest priority for the country by President Mikheil Saakashvili. Georgia’s new government also pays much attention to this segment. The new leadership applies new approaches to the tourism industry. The calculations show that out of 4 million foreigners crossing the border to enter Georgia, only 1/3 of them are tourists. The figures announced by the tourism department shows that Georgia has a growing number of tourists. The department also plans to use new approaches for attracting the tourists; for instance, winter tourism in Georgia is less profitable; however, the adventure tours are most popular. So, the country should follow the right direction for development. Solid investment is planned to be put in this direction, as well.
