General inspections of the Justice Ministry and General Prosecutor’s Office split
Liberali reports that the responsibilities and duties of the inspection units of the Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor’s Office have been separated. According to the Ministry of Justice, the functions of the general inspection unit of the ministry have been rearranged, while a new general inspection department has been established at the Chief Prosecutor's Office.
"The general inspection unit of the Ministry of Justice is subordinate to the justice minister, while the general inspection unit of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office is subordinate to the chief prosecutor." a statement on the ministry’s website reads.
According to the changes, the general inspection unit of the Ministry of Justice verifies how effectively the staff of the ministry and its subordinated civil services follows the law. The ministry’s general inspection unit also reveals conflicts of interests, controls implementation of the working ethic norms and budgetary/non-budgetary resources. The general inspection unit of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office exercises the same duties towards its staff.
