Ministry of Finance informs that it will start working on the separation of taxation and customs legislation. Minister of Finance, Nodar Khaduri, is personally leading these activities in the ministry. It will take time and certain financial resources as well to carry out the changes. In 2011, Georgia’s previous government (United National Movement) united taxation and customs legislation into one tax code but this change resulted in a more complicated system both in terms of customs duties and taxation revenue. Minister Khaduri stated that the margin of those two sources of income created problems. The customs code and tax code should thus exist separately. Some skeptics think that the separation of the codes will create extra difficulties for the businesspersons who have gotten used to the system introduced in 2011. However, the Finance Ministry has already started working over the project.
