Number of flights over Iran’s sky rises 5.1 %

The number of flights which were made over Iran's sky rose by 5.1 % in the seventh Iranian calendar month of Mehr (ended on October 22) compared to the same period of last year, the Mehr News Agency quoted State Airports Company official Ebrahim Shoushtari as saying.

Totally, 35,421 flights were made in the mentioned period of time, he added.

However, 14,036 domestic flights were made, showing a 30 % fall year on year, he noted.

Iran plans to supply fuel to foreign airlines at 10 cents [per liter] cheaper than the regional countries in a bid to attract more international flights, the Iranian deputy transport minister Ali-Mohammad Nourian said, Tehran Times reported.

Ali-Mohammad Nourian added that jet fuel is ordinarily supplied at 9 cents higher than the Persian Gulf FOB rate. We supply foreign airlines with fuel 10 cents below the average price which is supplied by the regional countries in a bid to attract more international flights, he explained.

The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran has announced that it will liberalize ticket prices to encourage domestic airlines to improve services.

In September, Civil Aviation Organization head Hamidreza Pahlavani said that the decision will take effect by the next four months.

In May, Pahlavani announced that two new Iranian airlines will start operation in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21.

A number of planes will be added to the national fleet in the current year, he said, adding that 19 planes were added to the fleet last year, he added.

In March, Pahlavani said that Iran has added two Airbus 340 planes, three Fokker 100 planes, and two other planes of different model to its national air fleet.
