Azerbaijan to build a new port in Turkey

The Azerbaijani company SOCAR Turkey announced that in November of 2013, it will start constructing a new port in the Aegean Sea next to the city of Izmir in Turkey. The port will mainly carry out transportation activities through shipping containers. Altogether, it is planned to spend over $400 million USD. The first phase of the construction is planned to be finished by 2015 when the port will be able to serve 1.5 million containers annually. When the final phase finishes in 2016, the port will be able to serve 4 million containers annually.
