Analysts are currently discussing the option of importing oil from Turkmenistan. Turkmen oil is approximately 20 percent cheaper than fuel from other countries. Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze supports the importation of Turkmen oil and believes it will discourage the creation of an energy monopoly. Azerbaijan also supports the move. The Union of Oil Importers in Georgia stated that it is not yet known who will import oil from Turkmenistan and who will distribute and sell it. Currently 90% of fuel sold in Georgia is sold by five corporations.
