Batyr Alymov has been appointed deputy minister of petroleum and mineral resources of Turkmenistan in accordance with a presidential decree, Turkmen government said.
Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan provides a centralized control of field development and rational use of mineral resources. It also conducts a coordination of activities and determines the oil and gas sector's development strategy.
Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy market of the Caspian region and Central Asia. The country plans to bring the annual natural gas production to 250 billion cubic meters in 2030. The major part of this gas will be exported.
In 2013, Turkmenistan commissioned its largest field Galkynysh, which according to Gaffney, Cline & Associates (UK), is the second largest field in the world.
It is expected that in the future this field can provide gas to all existing pipelines running from Turkmenistan and those that are being designed.
Turkmenistan exports natural gas to China, Iran and Russia. The gas pipelines that are being designed to run from Turkmenistan are the followings: to India (Trans-Afghan Pipeline - running through Pakistan), to Europe (Trans Caspian Gas Pipeline - running through Azerbaijan) and an optional gas pipeline running to Russia (Caspian gas pipeline - running through Kazakhstan).
