It is estimated that Georgia consumes around 55,000 tons of meat annually. Half of these products are imported. Analysts say that since the collapse of the Soviet Union, meat production in Georgia has diminished almost five times.
Official statistics suggest that in 2014, Georgia produced more than 30,000 tons of meat. It includes beef, pork and mutton. In 2011, Georgia produced 37,000 tons and in 2010 – 44,000 tons. The figures from 2013 are not yet available.
Meanwhile, Georgia is importing more and more meat. In 2010, it imported 15,000 tons, in 2011 – 18,000 tons, while in 2012 and 2013 – 24,000 tons each year.
