Azerbaijan offered Iraq a place to join the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline project, which connects the Caspian Sea basin gas suppliers with Europe. The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) envisages the transportation of Azerbaijani natural gas to European countries via Georgia and Turkey.
If Iraq agrees to join the project, the pipeline will become more profitable as it could transport more gas to the final destination. If Iraq’s answer is positive, by 2016 Iraq could be supplying the pipeline with 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas. And there is potential to increase this figure.
