The south stream natural gas pipeline envisages laying the pipeline on the Black Sea bed between Russia and Bulgaria and further to Austria and the rest of Europe.
The project has enabled Russia to transport its natural gas by bypassing Ukraine and Poland and reaching Europe in this way. However, European Union leaders are now seriously considering the option to freeze the south stream project.
This idea, which will result in closing down the project, has appeared because of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea and its incorporation into the Russian Federation.
