Thursday, April 24
Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Alasania wished a Happy Easter to a soldier wounded in Afghanistan, Ramaz Davitaia, in the rehabilitation center of the medical clinic “New Hospital”.
“Corporal Ramaz Davitaia is an example of bravery, spiritual strength and heroism for our Armed Forces. He was wounded in Afghanistan two years ago and underwent medical treatment in Germany. Despite an unpromising prognosis from doctors, he managed to become absolutely mobile. The Infantry Brigade in Senaki is waiting for him to return and share the experience he gained in international operations to his brothers-in-arms. I sent my Easter congratulations to him and to the Georgian Armed Forces today, especially, to our military servicemen who are protecting our security in international operations,” declared Irakli Alasania.
Corporal Davitaia was performing a peacekeeping mission in Helmand Province as a member of the 23rd battalion of the II Infantry Brigade. He was wounded in action and was transferred to the U.S. medical clinic in Heidelberg, Germany. His relatives and family members were by his side while he was in Germany.
Corporal Ramaz Davitaia has been undergoing rehabilitation course in “New Hospital” for six months. According to doctors, he will be able to leave the hospital soon and return to his work in Senaki. His apartment has already been specially adapted for his needs. Medical Company Ltd. “Hospitals Service” will provide supervision for 24 hours a day. Ramaza Davitaia has received an adapted flat in Tbilisi as well.
He was awarded with Vakhtang Gorgasali III rank order and service medal for “Combat Wound.”
