For the last two years the Georgian fishery segment of agriculture has achieved some amazing results. For the first time during the last 25 years, Adjara managed to catch 70,000 tons of fish, more than in Ukraine. Specialists in fishery claim that it was more Gods’ blessing than the efforts of people involved in the industry. The people are sure that the industry requires serious support from the government.
Fish from Georgia are exported to Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan and is consumed at local markets. During Soviet times, Georgia processed around 120,000 tons of fish. Locals used around ? of that amount, whereas the rest was utilized in the cattle breeding industry.
