The Georgian military will take part in Invictus Games

Wounded Georgian soldiers will take part in the Invictus Games due to be held in London in September. 6 Georgian soldiers selected for the games have been presented in the Cultural-Educational Centre of the Ministry of Defence. Deputy Minister of Defence Vako Avaliani and Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze greeted the Invictus Games participants and wished them every success in the competition. United Kingdom Defence Attache to Georgia, LTC Nick Wilkes also addressed the military.
Prince Harry sent his video address for the event participants too. The British Royal family representative thanked the Georgian people for supporting the games and the Georgian soldiers for taking part in the tournament. Prince Harry along with the British Royal Fund and UK Ministry of Defence provides an organizational support for the games.
Top military officials of the GS of GAF, the family members of the wounded military, trainers and the sports federations’ representatives attended the event. Among the invited guests was the founder of GT Motors Ltd Giorgi Tavdishvili. Within the frames of the project, this company is cooperating with the MoD and is an official supporter to the Georgian military’s involvement in the international competition.
The Georgian soldiers wounded in action during the 2008 August War and international operations are being prepared on a daily basis in different types of sport for the “Invictus Games” planned in London in 10-14 September. Professional trainers are preparing them in field and track athletics, in shooting with bow, swimming, volleyball, cycle race. The Georgian soldiers will compete together with around 400 wounded soldiers from 14 countries.
The Invictus games are being held in London for the first time in support of the wounded military servicemen and with their own participation. The goal of the tournament is to enhance the combat spirit and motivation of the injured soldiers, as well as to actively use sport activities during their rehabilitation. The Games provide a good opportunity for society to demonstrate their support and solidarity towards the soldiers who were heavy wounded in different combat operations and international missions.
