Defence Minister Met with his Afghan Counterpart

Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Alasania and Minister of Defence of Afghanistan Bismillah Khan Mohammadi signed the Memorandum of Understanding. Memorandum of Understanding is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Defence Ministries of two countries. According to the signed document, Georgia will share reforms to the Afghan colleagues and will also take part in retraining program of the Afghan Armed Forces.
“Memorandum of Understanding we signed today with Afghanistan is very important document. We officially laid foundations to our bilateral military cooperation. In Kandahar I saw how our military servicemen are providing assistance to the Afghan artillerists. They handed over certificates to their trainees. Our cooperation will continue and it will become more intensive and overarching. They need our assistance and Georgian Government is ready to support the Afghan Government,” declared Irakli Alasania.
Defence Minister of Afghanistan thanked the Georgian counterpart for the contribution to ISAF operation. I would like to thank the Georgian Government. Today’s memorandum is based on our bilateral cooperation and aims to deepen cooperation in the future. We always appreciate the Georgian sacrifice in Afghanistan and your Government remains committed to help Afghanistan beyond 2014. This memorandum is the initial steps for taking, working, starting work on the technical and other issues,” declared Afghan Defence Minister.
Official meeting was held in Kabul. Deputy Defence Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Colonel Roman Jokhadze and Senior Military Representative of Georgia to Afghanistan Colonel Joni Tatunashvili. With this meeting Minister of Defence of Georgia concluded his visit to Afghanistan.
