General F. James Amos visited MoD

Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps General F. James Amos paid a two-day official visit to Georgia. First Deputy Chief of Defence Brigadier General Vladimer Chachibaia and Deputy Minister of Defence Tamar Karosanidze hosted the U.S. General. Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States Archil Gegeshidze and the United States Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland attended the meeting as well. The sides discussed significance of the Wales Summit and Substantial Package for Georgia. During discussions, a special attention was attributed to Georgia’s participation in the ISAF operation and engagement in the Resolute Support” mission from 2015. General F. James thanked the Georgian side for its contribution to the NATO operation in Afghanistan as well as expressed desire about maintaining a close cooperation between the U.S. Marine Forces and the Georgian military in future. The sides discussed different aspects of bilateral cooperation plan between Georgia and the United States. The rehabilitation program being implemented for the Georgian military was also highlighted. Brigadier General Vladimer Chachibaia expressed his gratitude to General F. James Amos for his support of the program. One of the topics of discussion was also a regional security and Ukrainian crises. At the end of the meeting Brigadier General Vladimer Chachibaia granted “Golden Fleece” Order to the American visitor for his special contribution provided to strengthening relationship in defence area between Georgia and the United States and his firm support demonstrated towards Georgia. The American General was awarded under the Order N 01/09/02 of the Georgian President. Within the frames of the visit to Georgia, General F. James has already held a meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili.
