Deputy Minister: Azerbaijani-Georgian border to be delimitated in 2015
Wednesday, December 10
The delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Georgian border is expected to be completed in 2015. The State Commission for Delimitation of State Borders will complete coordinating the sections of the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia in 2015, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told reports Dec. 8.
“About a third of the entire length of the border must be coordinated,” he said.
“The demarcation of the Azerbaijani-Russian border is still underway,” he said. “Several meetings were held with the Russian side. The normative documents, approved by the parliament of Azerbaijan, were adopted.”
“Currently, the sides will work over demarcation, namely, to establish the border signs and so on,” he said. “This is a long process. It may take several years.”
Khalafov also announced the postponement of the meeting of the Working Group of the Caspian Sea Countries, scheduled for December.
“The sides must agree on a new date of the meeting,” he said.
Coastal states (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran) signed the framework convention for the protection of the marine environment of the Caspian Sea in November 2003.
In July 1998, Russia and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement on the delimitation of the northern part of the Caspian Sea in order to implement sovereign rights for subsoil use, and the protocol to this agreement was signed May 2002.
Agreements on the delimitation of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and the protocol were signed November 29, 2001 and February 27, 2003 respectively.
Also, an agreement on the delimitation of adjacent sections of the Caspian Sea was signed by Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia May 14, 2003. (Trend.az)
