Producer Price Index for Industrial Products in Georgia for December 2014

In December 2014, the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products posted a 2.4 percent increase over November 2014. The index increased 6.4 percent compared to December 2013 and 69.1 percent over the 2005 average. The monthly PPI rate was mainly owing to the price change for the following sections:
Manufacturing prices were 3.2 percent higher and the section contributed 2.65 percentage points to the overall index change. Substantial price increases were recorded for the manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (2.4 percent) and manufacture of chemical products (12.3 percent). The prices also increased for manufacture of paper and publishing (17.4 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (2.9 percent);
Supply of electricity, gas and water: the prices were 2.1 percent lower, which made the contribution of -0.27 percentage points to the overall index.
The price change for the following section contributed the most to the rise in the annual PPI:
Manufacturing: the prices increased 8.6 percent. As a result, the section’s contribution to the overall index percent change amounted to 7.04 percentage points. In the reporting period the price increases were recorded for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (10.5 percent), manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (8.7 percent) and manufacture of chemical products (14.9 percent);
• Supply of electricity, gas and water: the prices for the section decreased 2.8 percent with an impact of -0.39 percentage points on the overall index. (Geostat.ge)
