Road leading to Georgia-Russia border blocked due to avalanche danger
Wednesday, February 11
The movement of vehicles on the Gudauri-Kobi site of Georgia’s central highway Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars, which leads to the country’s border with Russia, was blocked due to avalanche danger.
Georgia’s Roads Department said Feb. 9 that it was prohibited to stop vehicles at the 134-135 kilometer mark of the highway in the Dariali Gorge.
The traffic is under the direct control of the patrol police.
Vehicles can freely move on the remaining sections of the highway.
In the mountainous regions of Georgia, there has been intense snowfall, creating an increased risk of avalanche. Weather forecasters have predicted unstable weather throughout Georgia for the next ten days. (Trend.az)
