Inflation hits 1% in Georgia

The inflation amounted to 1 percent in Georgia in August 2015 compared to July 2015, the Georgian National Statistics Office said, Georgia Online reported.

During the reporting period, the prices on food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 2 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco - by 0.6 percent, public utilities - by 4.4 percent, in the communication sector - by 0.1 percent, in education - 0.2 percent and hotel, cafe and restaurant services - 1.1 percent.

The prices in the transport sector decreased by 0.7 percent. During the reporting period, the prices in the health sector remained unchanged.

The inflation rate in Georgia was 5.4 percent in August 2015 compared to August 2014.

During this period, the prices on alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 13.1 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages - by 6.3 percent, hotel, cafe and restaurant services - 6.1 percent, in the health care – 9.1 percent, in education - 3.3 percent, public utilities – 5 percent and in the communication sector - by 0.3 percent.

The prices in the transport sector decreased by 1.6 percent in Georgia.
