Friday, September 25
Minister of Defence of Georgia Tinatin Khidasheli met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Georgia, Ian Kelly. Chief of the General Staff of the GAF Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze and U.S. Defence Attache to Georgia, Colonel Mathew Dimmick attended an introductory meeting.
The basic topic of discussion was cooperation in the military field between the United States and Georgia. The sides focused on Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic membership aspirations and future relations. As Minister Tinatin Khidasheli declared, all the programs of cooperation between the United States and Georgia will continue in the future.
“It is significant that the U.S. Ambassador has already arrived in Georgia. I am sure that his professional activity will be productive like that of his predecessor, on the one hand for our country, its security and defence capabilities, on the other- in terms of building democracy and state institutions. All the programs functioning both in Georgia and the United States will continue as well. The strategic partnership is the most valuable for us uniting the countries in the international arena. It is natural that our hopes are associated to a great extent to the support of the United States in different international formats,” outlined Tina Khidasheli.
The Ambassador of the United States to Georgia Ian Kelly reaffirmed that the United States supports Georgia`s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. “This is actually my second meeting with the Minister. I had dinner with the Minister in Washington at the residence of Ambassador Gegeshidze. We talked about the important issues facing Georgia – territorial integrity and Georgia’s aspirations which we support hundred percent to integrate to Euro-Atlantic institutions. Today we talked more practical terms - what we have already done together, how the things we have done can be done in better way and what more we can do. So I had a very good meeting with her and look forward to many more such productive meetings,” stated the U.S. Ambassador after the meeting with the Defence Minister.
