Chinese investors to construct a highway in Georgia
Tuesday, October 20
The 56 kilometre-long highway through Georgia’s Rikoti pass can be constructed by Chinese investors, Georgia Online reported.
Presumably, this section of the highway will be brought under Chinese control for 50 years.
Georgia’s Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Nodar Javakhishvili said that he met with the representatives of two Chinese companies to discuss the construction of this highway.
He noted that other projects were also discussed with the investors, but the Rikoti pass and bypass railway in Tbilisi were the main topics of the negotiations.
The country’s Foreign Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, for his part noted that aside from the highway through the Rikoti pass, it is planned to implement several other infrastructure projects – the new project linking Kutaisi with Svaneti region, as well as construction of several tunnels.
