In the attempts to discredit the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) coalition the members of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition have stated that the founder of the ruling coalition Bidzina Ivanishvili ‘grabbed four hectares of Tbilisi Botanical Gardens and attached the swath of land to his nearby residence’.
The UNM members also said the Tbilisi Mayor’s Office announced a tender on 29 hectares of land near the Botanical Gardens, where a road linking Krtsanisi-Shindisi should be constructed.
The opposition said the tender would close on May 3 and Ivanishvili would win it.
Deputy Tbilisi Mayor Irakli Lekvinadze dismissed the opposition’s allegations.
He also added that the four hectares were near the Krtsanisi-Shindisi route and had no connection with Ivanishvili’s residence.
Lekvinadze added the Botanic Gardens will be expanded on an additional four hectare area ‘more beneficial for the Botanical Gardens' touristic aims.”
With regards to the Krtsanisi-Shindisi route, the official said the tender winner would take responsibility to undertake construction works on the new road's adjacent areas.
Lekvinadze said all interested individuals and companies could participate in the tender.
