Great Success of Georgian Wines in Japan

In Tokyo, at the 4th “Sakura” Japan Women’s Wine Awards international wine fair, 12 Georgian wines were awarded one Double Gold, six Gold and five Silver medals.

The “Sakura” international awards is a large-scale event which was organized for the fourth time. The international wine competition is judged by Japanese female wine specialists, sommeliers, wine writers and journalists.

Success in this type of competition will further promote the progress of popularization, publicity and placement of Georgian wines not only in Japan but on the Asian market as a whole.

In total, 4212 wines 37 countries participated in the competition, degustations were organized January 28 to February 1.

The winning wines are the following:

Double Gold:

• Telavi Wine Cellar – Marani Kondoli Vineyards Saperavi 2014

• Winery Khareba – Saperavi 2013

Silver:
• Telavi Wine Cellar -Marani Mukuzani 2014
• Mildiani – Saperavi Reserve 2011
• Shumi – Saperavi Bio 2014
• Winery Khareba – Kindzmarauli 2014
• Besini – Besini Premium Dry Red 2013

The Diamond Trophy, the most honorable award, will be ed the Double Gold wine winners and the result will be announced at Japan’s FOODEX 2017 in March.

In 2016, 160,000 bottles of wine have been exported from Georgia to Japan, which is 15% higher than in 2015. (georgianwine.gov.ge)
