Construction of multi-level parking lots is planned in Tbilisi.
Tbilisi City Hall has announced the PWC Company has selected ten locations for the construction of ten new parking lots.
Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania stressed that City Hall would invite all interested private companies to build multi-storey parking lots that will mitigate Tbilisi’s traffic jams.
“We will sign contracts with those companies that will offer the best conditions. We suppose that the parking lots will be built within a year,” Narmania said.
As it was announced, nine lots out of the 10 will be constructed underground.
Tbilisi vitally needs parking lots, as there is simply not enough space in the capital city for so many cars.
The streets in Tbilisi are already overcrowded at almost all times of the day.
It is also good that the parking lots will be built underground, as parking lots are generally quite unsightly and could damage Tbilisi’s famous image.
It is also important to establish what the price for parking would be, as if the price is high for a country wherein the majority of people have low incomes, there is a risk that the parking lots might go unused.
It must also be stated that constructing parking lots alone will not ease traffic congestion in the city.
Some other, more effective steps need to be applied, as every year the number of cars increases.
Many cars which are seen in the capital are old, and cause serious harm to the environment.
