506 fully equipped orchards have been financed by the government Plant the Future project across Georgia.
With a total cost of 16.37 million GEL the orchards are located on 3,343 hectares of land and have a constant irrigation system to produce nuts, apples, permissions, almonds and plums.
The region of Shida Kartli is leading in the list with 194 orchards, followed by Kakheti with 135, Kvemo Kartli - 83, Samegrelo – 32, Imereti – 25, Guria – 18, Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 12, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 3, Adjara and Racha – 2.
The project ‘Plant the Future’ was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and is implemented by the Agricultural Project Management Agency under the ‘United Agroproject’ with the state budget.
Started in 2015 it helps farmers produce high quality products that would compete with imported products in the local market. At the same time, this should increase the export potential of Georgia’s agricultural products.
