(TBILISI) -- Georgia and Ukraine have launched a bilateral initiative aimed at using national ID cards as valid travel documents for visitors from each country, said Georgia’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Gela Dumbadze.

Ukraine first brought up the issue of using biometric national ID cards as travel documents - in place of passports - during a recent visit to Georgia by Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Volodymyr Groysman.

“The initiative means Georgia may have the same travel regulations with Ukraine as it does with Turkey,” said Dumbadze.
