Tbilisi Mayor Says Construction Permits for 6 million Square Meters Already Issued

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has announced about the “unfavorable reality” and stated that the construction permits for 6 million square meters have already been issued in capital Tbilisi.

“This is a sad reality,” Kaladze stated.

The mayor underscored that there are specific projects that have been approved years ago, but their implementation will affect the city.

“We are receiving many complaints. Our relevant departments are discussing them. There are particular cases when the Tbilisi residents are against building some of the constructions,” Kaladze said.

He stated that each such case is being discussed in his office.

Opposition Member Says Gov’t Interferes with TV Pirveli issues

Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of the United Georgian Movement (UNM) opposition, has held a press conference to state that the Georgian Dream government “continues” to interfere with issues of private channels to hamper critical, unbiased broadcasting.

She said that the owner of leadership of TV Pirveli is being attacked by the government.

“Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy, Dimitri Kumsishvili and Former Minister of Education and Science Alexander Jejelava are carrying out the pressure. This is not for the first time when the Georgian Dream government is acting against the media and business . We remember the Rustavi 2 case when the European Court of Human Rights suspended the Georgian Court’s verdict [to hand over the TV to its former owners],” said Dekanoidze.

Dekanoidze expressed her “deep respect” towards all the journalists and management of the TV Pirveli.

“ Despite the pressure, they are honorably fulfilling their professional duties,” she said.

Dekanoidze demanded that Kumsishvili leaves the post and criminal prosecution launches against him and Jejelava.

She said that her party was ready to meet all sides interested in the issue.
